We’ve all heard stories about the office couple hooking up in the broom closet after the Christmas cheer starts flowing. We’ve seen people get a little loose and mouth off to the boss. We’ve seen people fired over some overindulgent antics. Some of us have even experienced it firsthand.
In a Forbes magazine survey, 23% of respondents know someone who has been reprimanded by their employer for their behavior at a work holiday party. People also said that 20% have had too much to drink themselves and 14% know someone who has been fired over their holiday party behavior. There is a fine line between a heartfelt karaoke rendition of jingle bells and calling your boss a pompous rear in front of his wife.
Promiscuity is even more prevalent. Holiday parties are the most common event to start in-office affairs. In a survey conducted by Men’s Health magazine, 44% of the males said they’d had an affair with a co-worker at a holiday office party at least once in their life. In a GMTV survey, 16.4% of respondents said they became intimate at the office during a Christmas party. In another survey, almost 25% of female employees said their boss made a pass at them during an office Christmas party.
So remember, when you are having a good time knocking a few back with your office acquaintances, keep it classy. You do have to work with these people, after all.
