One commonality we share is that we all have, or had, a mother. There are about 85 million mothers in the United States. Holidays such as Mother's Day can be an important time to show our appreciation and love. Sometimes the role of the mother also falls to sisters, grandmothers and other women who play an active part in raising children. But holidays can also be difficult for many people who have lost their mothers or may be estranged from their mothers. There's a silent epidemic that exists among some adult children and their mothers, where the lines of communication are broken for any number of reasons. But holidays such as Mother's Day provide a reflective opportunity to change that, hopefully taking the steps that will allow you to look back on your relationships without regret.
